The Escape Life

The Escape Life is a blog for dreamers and achievers who believe that there is more to life than working a 9 to 5 job. We only have one life and we aren’t going to waste it. I share personal finance tips and travel experiences through my blog, The Escape Life, to help people realize that living your dream life is achievable.
The idea of “working a full-time job until I am 65 years old” never appealed to me. Some people are satisfied with that life but I can’t fathom how. There are so many places that I want to see and so much that I want to experience. I’m not willing to wait until I’m old and gamble my life away. I want to experience life now and on my terms.
My journey started two years ago. I just started a new job as a temporary government employee. I had no goals, no plan, and no direction. It felt like I was just getting by and not actually doing anything. It reached the point that I was looking forward to every weekend and dreading Sundays. I craved long weekends or the annual, week-long office closure for the holidays. Why did I let myself get to that point?
I decided that I wasn’t going to live a life that I wasn’t happy with. Through books and blogs, I was able to educate myself on how to manage my finances correctly so that I would have the flexibility to do anything I wanted. After two years of implementing key saving & investing strategies into my life, I’m happy to say that I’m in a place where I don’t have to worry about losing my job or taking “mini-retirements” when I want. I took back control of my life. With the time I saved not worrying about my finances, I discovered a talent for visual design and enrolled in a couple online classes for data visualization and UI design. I’m currently working as a freelancer providing visual design services. I now have the flexibility to be my own boss, choose my own hours, and travel when I want to.
I was bitten by the travel bug at a young age. I’ve traveled to Canada, Germany, Barbados, Switzerland, France, Japan, Mexico and Taiwan with my family. During university, I studied abroad in Okayama, Japan for 1 semester and Taipei, Taiwan for a year. After graduating, I’ve taken solo trips, sister trips, and girlfriend trips to London, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and more…and I’m not ready to stop.
Join me on this journey to escape the 9 to 5 life, and start living your dream life. Start taking control of your life by managing your finances the correct way. There is no better time than now. Give yourself time to do more of the things that are important to you. I’ll be with you every step of the way.
